The Aerospatiale AS355 Twin Squirrel helicopter first flew in 1979 with deliveries commencing in 1981. Designed as a multi role light utility helicopter the AS355 was built in many variants ranging from the initial AS355 prototype through to the AS355 NP variant with uprated engines, B3 gearbox allowing an increase in max take off weight from 2,300 kgs on the ‘F’ variant to 2,800kgs on the NP.

Operators include governments, military and corporate users with usual passenger configuration for five (one in the front alongside the pilot and four in the back). The AS355F2 has a cruise speed of 120 knots, range of 380 nautical miles and is powered by 2 Allison 250 C20F turboshaft engines each producing 420 shp.

Used AS355 helicopters are listed from $500k for early models whilst newer examples are around the $2.8m mark.
