Bombardier have adopted a new series of large cabin business jet since it introduced the Global Express. Labelled “Global” these aircraft are classified according to range. Thus the Bombardier Global 5000 has 5,200 nautical miles of range and claims the widest and most spacious cabin in class. Announced in 2001, it was officially launched in 2002. It is based on the earlier Global Express aircraft and key features are a slightly sorter fuselage, removal of the tail fuel tank and a reduction in range by 1,200 nautical miles.
Powered by Rolls Royce Deutschland BR710A2-20 turbofans producing around 14,750 lbs of thrust each, this aircraft will cruise at 488 knots with max speed in the region of 513 knots. For an aircraft of this size it has good runway performance requiring a take off distance of 5,540 ft and landing distance of 2,670 feet.
Avionics come courtesy of the tried and tested Rockwell Collins Pro Line fusion fit with Head Up Display and Enhanced Vision System giving crew significant advantage in low visiblity conditions. Cabin technology includes advanced cabin environment controls, advanced passenger entertainment systems, SATCOM and on board Wifi. This aircraft will fly upto 17 passengers between Paris and Chicago, or Berlin to Washington DC non stop.
New Global 5000 aircraft are available at $40m with used aircraft in the market from $23m.
