Lockheed L100/C130 Hercules

Lockheed L100/C130 Hercules

The Lockheed L100/C130 Hercules first flew in 1964 with a target military market in mind. The military classification for Hercules was the C130 with the civilian designation L100. A total of 114 L100 Hercules had been produced and delivered by the time production ceased in 1992. Some civilian registered L100 aircraft still remain in service to this day undertaking a wide range of tasks including passenger and freight services.

The Hercules requires three to four crew to operate including pilot, co-pilot, navigator, flight engineer who also doubles up as a loadmaster. On freight and passenger operations it is important to ensure that the aircraft remains within weight and balance limitations and hence the loadmaster has an incredibly important task.

In it military guise the C130 Hercules was far more widespread in use for cargo sorties, evacuations, air to air refuelling, coastguard, scientific research and coast guard duties among others. Since its introduction in the 1950’s there have been over 40 variations of the C130 Hercules in service across 60 nations.

The C130 is still in service today boasting a cruise speed of around 300 knots and range of just over 2,000 nautical miles. The Hercules comes into its own in challenging field environments operating from makeshift airstrips in difficult terrain environments. Its STOL capability is still impressive today, though with new more technically advanced, efficient aircraft on line the Hercules may have seen its heyday.

Execflyer utilise the Hercules aircraft in various environments around the world for airlifting, supply drops and evacuation missions.

Used Hercules aircraft can be seen in the market from around $2.5m.
